CeratopsiaPachyrhinosaurus canadensis Sternberg, 1950
The 'thick-nosed lizard', an Arctic-adapted ceratopsid that replaced horns with massive bony bosses.
CeratopsiaCentrosaurus apertus Lambe, 1904
A prominent centrosaurine ceratopsid from Alberta featuring a forward-curved nasal horn and hooked frill spikes.

Fossil Localities | Horseshoe Canyon Formation, Alberta, Canada Named: 1946 | Dinosaur Park Formation, Alberta, Canada Named: 1902 |
Locomotion & Behavior | Herding centrosaurine ceratopsian characterized by massive, flattened nasal and frontal bony bosses rather than sharp horns. In the Late Cretaceous of northern North America, Pachyrhinosaurus coexisted with duck-billed hadrosaurs like [Edmontosaurus](/dinosaurs/edmontosaurus) and was hunted by apex tyrannosaurid [Albertosaurus](/dinosaurs/albertosaurus). | Gregarious horned herbivore that gathered in massive herds numbering hundreds of individuals, as demonstrated by catastrophic bonebed deposits. In the Dinosaur Park Formation, Centrosaurus coexisted with fellow ceratopsians like [Styracosaurus](/dinosaurs/styracosaurus) and duck-billed hadrosaurs like [Corythosaurus](/dinosaurs/corythosaurus). |
Holotype & Fossils | Pipestone Creek bonebed containing thousands of individuals across all growth stages. | Megabonebeds in Dinosaur Provincial Park yielding thousands of bones and dozens of intact skulls. |
