PachycephalosauriaStegoceras validum Lambe, 1902
A small, bipedal pachycephalosaur from Alberta featuring an extremely thick, solid skull dome.
PachycephalosauriaPachycephalosaurus wyomingensis Gilmore, 1931
A bipedal ornithischian known for its 25-centimeter thick solid bone skull dome surrounded by bony knobs and spikes.

Fossil Localities | Dinosaur Park Formation, Alberta, Canada Named: 1898 | Lance Formation, Wyoming, United States Named: 1859 |
Locomotion & Behavior | Small, agile pachycephalosaur possessing a thickened frontoparietal dome used in social display or intraspecific head-butting. In the Dinosaur Park Formation, Stegoceras shared floodplain woodlands with horned dinosaurs like [Centrosaurus](/dinosaurs/centrosaurus) and [Styracosaurus](/dinosaurs/styracosaurus). | Bipedal herbivore or omnivore possessing an exceptionally thickened cranial dome, which biomechanical models indicate was used in ritualized flank-butting or head-pushing combat. In the Hell Creek ecosystem, it lived alongside horned dinosaurs like [Triceratops](/dinosaurs/triceratops) and armored [Ankylosaurus](/dinosaurs/ankylosaurus). |
Holotype & Fossils | Dozens of complete skull domes and partial skeletons showing dramatic ontogenetic growth changes. | Known almost exclusively from well-preserved, dense skulls and cranial domes that resist weathering. |
