Locomotion & Behavior | Specialized semi-aquatic piscivore and opportunistic carnivore that used its elongated snout and recurved thumb claw to hook large fish. It inhabited the subtropical Wealden floodplain alongside robust herbivorous ornithopods like [Iguanodon](/dinosaurs/iguanodon) and closely allied Wessex spinosaurids like [Ceratosuchops](/dinosaurs/ceratosuchops). | Apex pursuit predator that shared the Early Cretaceous coastal plain ecosystem with contemporary dromaeosaurids like [Deinonychus](/dinosaurs/deinonychus) and large ornithopods like [Tenontosaurus](/dinosaurs/tenontosaurus). Trackway assemblages and body fossils indicate it operated as the dominant carnivore across these ancient river deltas. |
Holotype & Fossils | Nearly complete holotype skeleton with intact skull, massive claws, and stomach contents at NHM London. | Spectacular complete specimen 'Fran' (NCSM 14345) mounted at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. |
