TheropodaCeratosuchops inferodios Barker et al., 2021
The 'horned crocodile-faced hell heron', a newly described spinosaurid from the Isle of Wight.
TheropodaAcrocanthosaurus atokensis Stovall & Langston, 1950
A high-spined North American apex predator famous for hunting sauropods across Early Cretaceous river valleys.

Locomotion & Behavior | Semi-aquatic spinosaurid predator specialized in riverine and estuarine habitats. Excavated from the Wessex Formation on the Isle of Wight, Ceratosuchops shared the Early Cretaceous European wetland biome with its close relative [Baryonyx](/dinosaurs/baryonyx) and abundant ornithopods like [Iguanodon](/dinosaurs/iguanodon). | Apex pursuit predator that shared the Early Cretaceous coastal plain ecosystem with contemporary dromaeosaurids like [Deinonychus](/dinosaurs/deinonychus) and large ornithopods like [Tenontosaurus](/dinosaurs/tenontosaurus). Trackway assemblages and body fossils indicate it operated as the dominant carnivore across these ancient river deltas. |
Holotype & Fossils | Premaxillae, postorbital region, and braincase fragments exhibiting diagnostic spinosaurid anatomy. | Spectacular complete specimen 'Fran' (NCSM 14345) mounted at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. |
